早咲きの熊谷桜

熊谷駅南口のロータリーの植え込みに、小振りでかわいらしい熊谷桜の花が
春の訪れを感じさせます。
この桜は熊谷中央ライオンズクラブによって平成6年12月5日に植樹されたもので、
熊谷直実が一の谷の戦いにおいて、さきがけを競ったという故事にちなんで「直実櫻」と名付けられたようです。
今月29日から始まる熊谷さくら祭には、この直実櫻を見てから桜堤に向かうのもいいですね。
